The Designer Forum has been set up within EMTEX to provide a variety of business & design support.

Then why not let us do the hard work, our comprehensive workshop programme & resources may be just what you are looking for.

The education department, run by the Designer Forum, is specifically designed to assist secondary schools to deliver their GCSE Design & Technology syllabus for Textiles, as well as supporting teachers and pupils across the whole of secondary education with industry input. Pupil Industry Workshops

DESIGN A T-SHIRT
Our most popular pupil workshop to date, the Design a T-shirt workshop, consists of: Each pupil will have the opportunity to design & make their own t-shirt adapting the pre-cut shapes to suit their own designs, use industrial machinery to make-up the garment and then print with their own design or use our extensive library of designs which they will have doctored on the SpeedStep CAD software.

Throughout the session pupils will be shown and get involved with industrial processes and will experience developing their own product within a professional environment under industry standards.

Price - £425- for a maximum of 20 pupils. This price includes a Mass Production CD Rom / or a Manufacturing Poster Pack

SMART / TECHNICAL TEXTILES
This updated workshop consists of: Each pupil will have the opportunity to design & make their own MP3 holder (to be worn on the waist / arm / or round the neck), use industrial machinery to make-up the MP3 holder and also experience the world of Smart / Technical Textiles through an interactive presentation and quizzes.

Throughout the session the emphasis will be on technology & smart / technical textiles, with the opportunity for pupils to also experience manufacturing their own product using industrial sewing equipment.

Price - £425- for a maximum of 20 pupils. This price includes a New Textiles Resource Pack / or a Technical Textiles Poster Pack (Whilst stocks last)

FASHION TREND RESEARCH
This workshop consists of: Each pupil will learn about different methods of market research, before developing their own questionnaires & undertaking their own shop reports, pupils will then be able to fully utilise a commercial trends library to develop their own moodboard using a wide variety of materials.

This session can be geared towards actual GCSE coursework where required, and the emphasis of the session is to develop an understanding and an appreciation of the various methods of market research, including customer, competitor, market and trend analysis and how this impacts on the design process.
(particulary useful for A-level students just to bring the industry knowledge up to date before University).

PR & MARKETING
This workshop consists of: Each pupil will learn about different methods of PR & Marketing, before developing their own promotional material including designing their own logos, swing tags, and advertising layouts, followed by an overview of writing their own press release and fashion magazine article.

This session can be geared towards actual GCSE coursework where required, and the emphasis of the session is to develop an understanding and an appreciation of the various methods of marketing and PR and to assist with developing their overall standards in presenting their work professionally.
(particulary useful for A-level students just to bring the industry knowledge up to date before University).

CD Roms - 3 extremely useful and very popular CD Roms (that are completely networkable) covering Textile Testing, Manufacturing and Dyeing & Printing Techniques providing useful footage and downloadable worksheets. Cost: £35 + VAT (£41.12) per CD Rom.

New Textiles Resource Pack - Excellent resource with interactive CD Rom and classroom pack (with photocopiable sheets & fabric samples) covering key aspects within the technical / smart textiles. Cost: £40.00 + VAT (£47.00) per Pack.

Manufacture Room –If you don’t have the resources in your school for your pupils to make up their garments, or you would like your pupils to use industral machines then why not hire out our manufacturing room for the day and let your pupils work with industrial machines under the careful eye of our resource centre staff.
For £200 per day you will have access to the machines and pattern cutting tables as well as our resource centre staff on hand if you have any questions or problems.

TEACHERS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS

Why not attend one of our Teachers Professional Development Workshops:

**NEW** ENTERPRISE TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP - Covering all the latest on enterprise within the textiles industry, plus 'business-style' activities for back in the classroom with a ‘Dragons' Den’ feel to them and an insight through a full industry visit.

** NEW** DESIGN & RESEARCH TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP - Covering all the latest on trends, design & market research techniques, plus lots of practical activities for back in the classroom using computer aided design software, as well as hands-on methods plus a visit to a university design department / company design department.

'NEW TEXTILES' TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP: - Covering all the latest in technical & smart textiles, looking at how different industries i.e. Medical, Automotive and Aerospace use textiles in ways you may not have realised. With practical exercises for back in the classroom plus an all important industry visit.

MANUFACTURING TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP: - Highlighting all the latest in global manufacturing. With practical exercises for back in the classroom. Looking at the ethical & environmental issues that are currently affecting the industry. Plus an industry visit to a local manufacturer.

Corsetry Workshop (on demand) – Teachers will be provided with an overview of historical and modern techniques and applications of corsetry, before taking part in a practical demonstration where they will be shown how to create a corset, use these methods for garment design, and also how to create a mini-corset.

Extremely good value – each workshop offers a factory visit, comprehensive presentation on the latest developments in New Textiles or Manufacturing, and practical exercises plus valuable handouts that can be delivered back in the classroom.

Cost £55 per teacher

Ideal for those delivering KS3 & 4 that want to update their skills & knowledge, as well as newly qualified teachers.

Please note: These courses are subject to demand and will only be run with a minimum number of teachers.

SpeedStep Accredited Teacher Training
Teachers can attend a 3-day course (covered by an initial 2 days /with a follow-up 1 day session to be completed within 3 months of the first 2 days); once successfully completed and assessed they will be issued with a certificate as an Accredited Teacher for SpeedStep

Cost: £500 including £260 +VAT to DATA for SpeedStep Software
